DUBAI: As Eid Al-Adha 2025 approaches, UAE travellers are increasingly seeking short-haul trips to nearby GCC countries.

New figures from Skyscanner, a global travel marketplace, reveal a clear preference for quick getaways timed just before the summer school holidays.

Between January and April 2025, Dubai topped the list of most searched-for destinations for travel dates spanning 5-9 June. The city was followed by Jeddah, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Muscat. The strongest spike in interest occurred during the week commencing 21 April, when searches rose by 48% compared to the previous week – suggesting peak planning activity for Eid travel.

Short trips preferred

Data indicates that last-minute bookings continue to dominate Eid travel habits. With schools still in session and summer breaks yet to begin, UAE residents are opting for shorter, manageable trips that minimise disruption to academic and work routines.

In April 2025, 80 percent of all travel search activity focused on trips lasting seven days or less. This trend reflects similar behaviour seen during Eid Al-Adha in 2024, when 96 percent of bookings to GCC countries were for short stays of under one week. These patterns reinforce the sustained popularity of convenient regional escapes.

School term impact

The overlap between Eid and the tail-end of the academic calendar appears to be a key factor influencing travel decisions. Parents are prioritising destinations that require minimal preparation, are within easy reach, and make effective use of the long Eid weekend.

Dubai’s enduring appeal also extends far beyond the region. In April 2025, it was the third most popular city globally for hotel bookings, trailing only Mumbai and London. By May, Dubai held the fourth position globally, with Mumbai, Tokyo, and London ranking higher. Osaka completed the top five.

Global travel insights

These rankings highlight Dubai’s strong positioning on the world travel stage, not only as a departure point but also as a destination in itself. The city’s performance during peak travel periods such as Eid confirms its attractiveness to both inbound and outbound tourists.

Ayoub El Mamoun, Travel Expert at Skyscanner, commented: “With summer holidays not yet in full swing and schools still in session, we’re seeing UAE residents favour quick getaways to nearby destinations for Eid Al-Adha. Short-haul options across the GCC offer a great way for families and friends to enjoy the long weekend without the planning and time commitment of a long-haul trip.”
